Video is no longer an optional extra for publishers: it’s become a cornerstone of audience engagement. A well-placed video can strengthen a story, extend time on site, and provide context that text alone often can’t. Yet for all the impact video delivers, the processes of managing and embedding can badly slow editorial and content teams. Switching between platforms, copying snippets, fixing embeds, and creating accurate and rich metadata to drive engagement all add time and friction to editorial workflows.
Now, that friction is gone. We’ve partnered with machine learning-based video technology company EX.CO to bring fast and seamless video management directly into Glide CMS. With EX.CO’s video infrastructure woven into Glide CMS’s text editor, editorial and content teams can manage, place, and optimise video without leaving the article or live report they’re working in.
This integration also connects the full value chain that modern publishers rely on: content management, content recommendation, and monetisation. Strong metadata sits at the centre - fueling smarter recommendations, driving deeper engagement, and ultimately boosting revenue. EX.CO brings this to life with AI-based metadata enrichment, contextual video recommendation, and high-performing monetisation capabilities, all now available directly inside Glide CMS. The result is a unified workflow where teams can manage, enrich, recommend, and monetise video in one place.
EX.CO’s integration in Glide CMS is for any publisher, media organisation, and sports team which utilises video to drive engagement and revenue, and wants to simplify working with video inside their CMS. Glide CPO Rich Fairbairn said: “Every content handbook in the world is telling brands and media companies to have a video strategy, so making video management and usage easier is something with real reward. If you have had to manage videos across systems, you know how tricky it can be. A direct link between the video and content platforms makes video usage way more straightforward.”
Designed with publishers in mind, EX.CO offers an online video platform (OVP) that addresses video management, monetisation, and optimisation at scale.
After an organisation adds the EX.CO API details in Glide CMS's main settings area, EX.CO video and playlist buttons will automatically appear in the CMS text editor toolbar alongside other familiar content tools. It means users can access EX.CO videos without needing to be assigned a log-in and password for EX.CO or switching between platforms, and access can be safely managed from within Glide CMS.
As with all toolbar options, the EX.CO video and playlist buttons can be customised per article type, so teams can enforce their own editorial processes rather than bending workflows to software constraints.
Adding a video is straightforward. Users can choose to:
Glide CMS validates the asset through EX.CO’s API and pulls in key metadata - title, description, duration, and available thumbnails. An editor can alter the title or description to be contextual with the article in situ, and set autoplay to on or off.
Playlists behave similarly, with additional metadata such as:
On the consumer-facing front-end, embeds use EX.CO’s responsive player, ensuring fast load times, adaptive streaming, and automatic analytics tracking.
As video increasingly drives digital storytelling, the underlying infrastructure must keep pace. EX.CO’s integration into Glide CMS brings together two specialised strengths - EX.CO’s publisher-focused video infrastructure and Glide CMS’s modern content management architecture - to solve several long-standing video utilisation challenges editorial and content teams have faced. It allows for:
Video to become native to the editorial workflow
With EX.CO embedded in Glide, video becomes a natural extension of the article itself and adapts to the newsroom, not the other way around. Editors no longer need to switch back and forth between platforms to grab URLs, IDs, lengthy embed codes, and metadata details or supporting assets. Everything happens in one place.
This integration also delivers a fully seamless, end-to-end workflow for content teams. By bringing EX.CO directly into Glide CMS, editors can manage articles, organise and enrich video content, control the player experience, and apply monetisation settings - all within a single interface. The result is a unified, highly efficient workflow that eliminates tool switching and supports the full video lifecycle, from creation and placement to performance and revenue.
One workspace, one interface, fewer steps, and far less opportunity for errors.
Video to be used in more places
Because embedding is simple and standardised, video becomes a natural part of every storytelling format: think hero videos at the top of the page, contextual clips embedded throughout the text, pre-bundled video galleries which can be added in seconds. It allows video to be added precisely where it delivers the most value, capturing attention to create engagement and monetisation opportunities.
Video consistency and quality across your site
Every embed uses the same optimised player, following your organisation’s EX.CO configuration. This eliminates mismatching embeds, layout issues, or inconsistent metadata. What’s more, standardised embeds eliminate the need for custom HTML and developer maintenance.
The integration of EX.CO’s video platform into Glide CMS delivers both editorial and commercial benefits including:
Editorial benefits
Product & engineering benefits
Business & revenue benefits
Video has become essential to audience growth and revenue. To take advantage of the content and revenue benefits video provides, publishers and media organisations need tools to meet them where they work.
With EX.CO fully embedded into Glide CMS, video becomes a natural, scalable part of the editorial process, not an extra task to manage. The result is a unified workflow that connects content creation through to recommendations and monetisation, turning editorial efficiency into a strategic advantage for engagement and revenue growth. One workspace, one interface, fewer steps, and far less opportunity for errors so editors and content teams can focus on what they do best: telling great stories enriched by video.
